Red-shouldered Hawk

I took advantage of a snow day from work and went out to take pics. Glad I did! I got a Hawk, an Eagle pic, Deer, Fox, Geese, a big Gull, Coots, and Duck pictures!

I left the house this morning in search of some Hawks and Eagles at the lower dam in Loch Raven Reservoir.  Upon arrival, I immediately saw a big immature eagle flying by, which I found a few minutes later perched in a tree and managed to get a good full-frame image of after it flew off – I’ll post that later today.

Anyway, I kept hearing a Hawk somewhere on the other side of the stream.  So, I decided to walk down to where I could cross and work my way back up towards the dam (and along the way I spooked a bunch of Deer, but that is for a later post also).  Then I heard the Hawk again and remembered what I was looking for;  I looked around, and voila!  At first all I got were pics of it’s back, but I guess it wanted to keep a better eye on me when it turned around.  If only it wasn’t so high up in the tree, but as they say, beggars can’t be choosers…

The Hawk eventually got tired of me invading it’s territory.  I looked down at my camera to change some settings, but when I looked back up it was gone.  I located it later when I was about to leave (1-1/2 hours later it was still ‘cawwing’ loudly, or whatever it is Hawks do) and took this last shot from far away (pretty big crop)…
