I tried something different at the Grand National Steeplechase this year – slow shutter speeds (between 1/20 – 1/80 second) in combination with panning the camera. Β The idea is to show motion in the image and blur the background, however to be most effective you want part of the subject to come in sharp – ideally here, the jockey (1/20 second may of been too slow)…
